Agriculture is basically the process of cultivating plants of various species and also rearing of animals of various species too. The importance of cuts across lots of ways. It can not be underrated. No nation can survive without agriculture. Agriculture has been in existence since the inception of man.

Agriculture has been the basic way of fetching daily food for humans since the inception of man. Agriculture brings food quality food to the table of man and also provides man the basic amenities mostly when the agricultural products are sold. That’s why the importance of agriculture can not be undermined.   

However, many people make many mistakes in the practice of agriculture. Mistakes people make in agriculture are different ways. These mistakes can be caused by lot of reasons which may be lack of awareness, negligence, poor usage of some agricultural tools or improper usage of  some fertilizers etc. These mistakes are carefully analysed below.

1. NOT STARTING SMALL

It’s every business’ caution that one should start small. When one starts small, one tends to understand the challenges associated with the business better without making a huge loss. For example, one starting a poultry farm of an acre of land with a very huge capital and unfortunately, the environment is not conducive for the birds and they die, it would a great loss for such person. On the other hand, if one starts such business with few birds of about ten in number, if they should die at all, the owner would lean without a great loss.

 2.  NOT SETTING GOALS

Setting of goals is also a very common mistake i agriculture. One is expected to set clear goals that would help one to remain focused as an agriculturist. One gets in line and when the business is not going o rightly, one can easily come back and adjust where adjustment is needed.

3. NOT MAKING PROVISIONS FOR UNFORSEEN CIRCUMSTANCES

This is one of the most common mistakes of farmers. Not making provision for unforeseen circumstances is another mistake in agriculture. Many plans turn not out in negative ways. Proposals does not always get disposed exactly as proposed. As a result of this, one is expected to be ready for the unforeseen situations.  Natural disasters may happen. Natural disasters such as flood, poor sunlight for crops, poor weather for animals.

4. THINKING AGRICULTURE BUSINESS IS A GET RICH QUICK BUSINESS

Anyone who engages in any business should be ready to be patient. The good of it doesn’t come in a night. In fact, agriculture is a business that takes time. It takes time grow crops and it also takes time for animals to grow old and mature for reproduction and sales. Hence, agriculture is not a get rich quick business. One would make a big mistake in agriculture if one thinks it’s a get rich quick business.5.   

5. NOT GETTING ORIGINAL, QUALITY AND VERIFIED FARM INPUTS     

Another mistake people make in agriculture is the mistake of using fake farm inputs. Some inputs such as the seeds, the fertilizers may not be of good and desired quality. You have to be sure of the type of input you use and use it correctly as prescribed. In addition to that, you may get a trusted retailer.

Lack of adequate information about something makes one to fall into various kinds of error. Another mistake people in agriculture is the mistake of not having adequate information about agriculture. The practice of agriculture is a very technical one. It involves various forms of techniques. For example, rearing some animals or planting of some vegetation may be detrimental in a particular season. At some seasons, planting of maize may not be advisable. There are some preferable types of cage for some species of bird , and so on. Thus, if one is not informed well enough, one may be running a great risk. 

7. NOT HAVING A BUSINESS MINDSET

This also is one of the common mistakes of farmers. It’s a great mistake farmers make in agriculture. Agriculture is a very lucrative business but if you don’t run it with a business mind, you may not gain a lot from it. You are to note that farm produce is mainly for your personal consumption and also for exchange for money. That is, you consume the little you can and sell the rest at tangible rates. Many run into loss because they fail to sell their products at good rates. However, this does not warrant exorbitant rate of selling farm produce.
